San Francisco to Los Angeles

Driving a Cadillac!!

sunny

On our last day in San Francisco, we took a boat trip to Alcatraz. For the first time, so far, I was quite stunned at actually being on 'the rock'. There is so much history there, it is actually quite eerie. The guided audio tour makes it easy to imagine what it would have been like to be there. We also went on a tour to the Golden Gate Bridge and saw some of the sights that Alonzo showed us, but in daylight!

We had already booked a hire car from San Francisco for Thursday so we went to pick it up in the morning expecting to be getting a 2 dr standard car. Due to having too many bookings however, we were given a luxury Cadillac! Honestly, we could just live in this thing for the rest of the seek and save ourselves a fortune! Driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in a tank was not exactly fun, and I'm used to winding roads!

We stopped in a great little town called San Luis Obispo last night and we are now in Santa Barbara looking for somewhere to stay in Malibu for tonight.

Must go now, running out of time!

First Days In San Francisco

Flight here was uneventful and as nice as a 10 hour economy class flight can be. After a quick nap in the hotel, we ventured out to find dinner. Thankfully, we chose to get a cab and met Alonzo, a very friendy cabbie born and bred in San Fran who said we could only get in if we liked Jazz! Instead of simply taking us to Fisherman's Wharf, he took us on a fantastic little nightime tour of the city including stopping at Twin Peaks to show us the view of the bay across Alcatraz and the Golden Gate bridge, where he lost his cap in the wind. We went through Haight-Ashbury, Castro and North Beach villages, down Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world, and past Pacific Heights were the houses are enormous and security wont let the public through. For some reason however, Alonzo is allowed... We didn't ask why! He recommended a lovely local restaurant as well which was as good as he said it would be.

We are going to take a boat trip out to Alcatraz tomorrow, hopefully it will be a bit warmer, today is sunny but the wind makes it pretty cold.

3 Days To Go!

I've just bought my rucksack!

Firstly, I must thank Vanessa for introducing me to this handy little website.

I am starting to wish I was the kind of person who made lists. I do, in a way, just in my head rather than on paper and in my current excited state, my mind seems to be pushing them aside in favour of imagining beaches and exotic cultures. Who can blame it really!
